Leaves: Leaves compound (bipinnate). Alternate. With nectaries on leaf rachises and pinnae. Nectaries present on leaf rachises and pinnae. Petiolate. Stipules linear or filiform, caducous.

Flowers: Flowers in terminal panicles, axillary spikes, or racemes. Flowers bisexual (perfect), mimosaceous. Calyx lobes 5, valvate. Corolla tubular to campanulate, 5-lobed. Stamens more than 30; filaments connate at least at base. Ovary superior; style 1, apical.

Fruit: Pods flat; straight; dehiscent along both sutures. Seeds several; ellipsoid to oblong; usually transversely arranged; with a distinct; horseshoe–shaped pleurogram.
